Prof. Marek Stankiewicz

Director of the National Synchrotron Raidiation Centre SOLARIS

Prof. Marek Stankiewicz is the director of the SOLARIS Centre. He holds a PhD degree in atomic and molecular physics and has extensive experience in working with synchrotron radiation. He has intensively collaborated with numerous international partners, including University of Reading, Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Imperial College London, as well as Max-Lab and Sincrotrone Elettra synchrotron light sources. He was a leader of the project focused on the construction of the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS.

Prof. Alexander Prange

Professor at Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences

Prof. Alexander Prange is Professor for Microbiology and Hygiene at Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and Professor-Research (part-time) at CAMD, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, USA. He is Vice-President for Research and Transfer of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences and responsible for the strategic science management, research funding and industrial liaison affairs. He is leading HNs post-graduation program for PhD students. His main research activities focus on investigating chemical speciation of various elements using SR-based techniques in a broad range of biological systems at different synchrotron radiation sources in close collaboration with Prof. Josef Hormes.

Dr. Alejandro Sánchez

Associate director for the Industrial Liaison Office

Dr. Alejandro Sánchez is associate director for the Industrial Liaison Office at ALBA synchrotron. He has 14 years of experience in the semiconductor industry and more than 4 years related with European projects. He has 14 years of experience in synchrotron activities dealing with the construction phase, budget, industrial customers and European projects.

I am a creative, open-minded innovation strategist, with an entrepreneurial mindset. My goal is to open new ways and to help others. I have worked in different sectors including IT at hp, Fintech at Ingenico, Consultancy at Deloitte, Energy at Innoenergy, Agrifood at GB Foods, and Public sector Innovation at Ajuntament de Sant Cugat del Vallès I Ajuntament de Barcelona and Science Business (UK, Brussels). We will explore how can companies and organizations solve their innovation puzzle and create innovation strategies and ecosystems to lead to company growth, by creating new Innovation Management Scenarios, Systems, Models, and Processes, and giving an answer to key companies’ innovation challenges related to innovation-based growth. We will learn what part do Start-Ups play in filling the innovation gap.

Prof. Josef Hormes

Prof. Josef Hormes has established and led the Technology Transfer Office of the Uniersity of Bonn, with the first experiences of collaborating with industry published already in 1992. He was the Director of the Louisiana State University Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) and the Director of the Canadian Light Source (CLS), where he established a dedicated Industrial Research Group. First high resolution XAS experiments have been carried out in the group of prof. Hormes in 2009 and he has been collaborating with prof. Alexander Prange since 1999.

Dr. Klaus Attenkofer

Dr. Klaus Attenkofer is the Scientific Director of ALBA Synchrotron. He has 30 years of experience in using synchrotron light for materials and chemical sciences and was responsible for building 3 beamlines in the US and Europe going from beamline scientist to various positions in management. He has over 100 peer reviewed publications, 4 patents and being involved in industrial collaborations targeting photon detection, semiconductors and energy applications

Dr. Piotr Ciochoń

Industry Liaison Officer at the SOLARIS Centre

Dr. Piotr Ciochoń is the Industry Liaison Officer at the SOLARIS Centre. He has several years of experience as a project coordinator and a project leader of national and European R&D projects. He has completed MBA studies and has an entrepreneurial side, being involved in the technology transfer and commercialization activities and co-authoring several patents.

Katarzyna Walczyk-Matuszyk

EU Funds Expert, coordinator of the NCP_WIDER.NET project

Katarzyna Walczyk-Matuszczyk is an expert in EU Funds for Research and Innovation, including Horizon Europe. She is a coordinator of NCP_WIDER.NET under HorizonEU, with 30 international partners and a budget of 8 Million Euros. She is also a member of Advisory Boards in Horizon2020 projects: ANTHENA, ERA-LEARN and a Polish Delegate to the HorizonEU Programme Committees on WIDERA and European Innovation Council.

She has a PhD in theoretical medicine focused on the application of synchrotron techniques in connection with legal aspects of selenium-based dietary supplements and Mushrooms enriched with selenium.

Prof. Jost Götter

Prof. Jost Göttert is currently a tenured faculty member in the department of electrical engineering and computer sciences at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences. He is the technical director of the university’s HIT Institute, focusing on intelligent automation solutions developing advanced surface coatings. He also holds an adjunct faculty and senior scientist position at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge continuing process development for microfluidic and optical MEMS applications using the CAMD synchrotron radiation facility, where he served as Director for Microfabrication until 2012. He has designed and built several x-ray lithography beamlines and is familiar with all the technical and operational aspects of working with them.

Henning Lichtenberg

Department of Research and Transfer, Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences

Dr. Henning Lichtenberg is a scientific associate at the Hochschule Niederrhein Institute for Surface Technology (HIT), specialized in materials research using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). His responsibilities include building up the new XAS beamline at SOLARIS, with a strong focus on projects of researchers at Niederrhein University and their industrial and academic collaboration partners. Previously he worked as doctoral candidate in the Synchrotron Light Group at Bonn University (Germany), as postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (Louisiana State University, USA), and as group leader (In-Situ Spectroscopy/Synchrotron Methods) at the Institute of Catalysis Research and Technology (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology).

Ana Belén Martínez is the head of the Communications and Outreach Office of the ALBA Synchrotron. With an academic background in communications and advertising, she has more than 15 years of experience in science communication and public engagement programs. Before joining ALBA in 2013, she was in charge of the communications and promotion of the UAB Research Park and other private companies. Elizabeth Shotton

Head of the Industrial Liaison Group at the Diamond Light Source

Dr Elizabeth Shotton is Head of the Industrial Liaison Office at Diamond Light Source. With a PhD in chemistry and an MBA, she has 25 years’ experience of applying synchrotron radiation methods to understand industrial research challenges. She has a number of collaborations focusing on applying new methods to industrially-relevant samples, with a particular focus on drug development; these collaborations have resulted in 70+ peer review publications. She also collaborates extensively with her counterparts at synchrotron facilities across Europe to share best practice and undertake joint marketing activities.

Dr. Edward Mitchell

Head of Business Development at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility

Dr. Ed Mitchell is the Head of Business Development at the European Synchrotron (ESRF). He has over 25 years experience at the ESRF in various international projects. The ESRF’s Business Development Office generates 2M€ annually from provision of commercial services exploiting the ESRF X-ray and lab facilities for innovative R&D, licensing and manufacture of high performance instrumentation.

Marc Malfois

Marc Malfois is the beamline responsible of the NCD-SWEET beamline at ALBA synchrotron. He has 20 years of experience working in 5 different European synchrotrons on Small Angle X-Ray Scattering beamlines. He specialized in low resolution structure of particle in solution in particular biological molecules.

Laura Simonelli

ALBA synchrotron

Dr. Laura Simonelli is the XAS beamline responsible since 2013 at the ALBA Synchrotron. She is expert in instrumentation and condensed matter physics, particularly in the interplay between lattice and electronic properties in highly correlated systems and other technologically relevant materials. She produced 95 publications in international journals or books reaching a final H-index of 21.

Oriol Vallcorba

Dr. Oriol Vallcorba is a Beamline Scientist at the ALBA Synchrotron. With a PhD in Chemistry and a Computer Science technical degree as academic background, he has more than 10 years of expertise as a Crystallographer specialized in the development of tools and methodologies for data processing and analysis. After 4 years in the MSPD beamline he moved to the construction of the NOTOS beamline devoted to XAS and XRPD that will start user operation in 2022.
